WORKERS’ COMPENSATION – RECOVERING FOR REPETITIVE STRESS INJURY IN NEW JERSEY

On Behalf of | Feb 13, 2013 | Workers' Compensation

A common misconception is that, in order to seek benefits under the New Jersey workers’ compensation laws, you must be able to point to a traumatic event, to some accident or mishap that clearly caused your injury. This is not true! While proving the cause of a repetitive motion or stress injury can be challenging, an experienced and knowledgeable attorney can help you get the benefits you need and to which you are entitled.

At the Law Offices of Mallon & Tranger, we bring extensive experience to people who have been hurt on the job. To schedule a private meeting, contact us online or call us at 732-702-0333. Your first consultation is free.

COVERAGE FOR REPETITIVE STRESS OR MOTION INJURIES

In many work contexts, human beings perform tasks like machines, repeatedly engaging in the same motion for hours at a time. Just as the relentless use of a machine leads to its eventual breakdown, the continual repetition of the same motion by a human worker will cause the body to break down.

Some repetitive stress injuries can be fairly obvious. If your job requires that you continually bend at the waist or knees, lifting or pushing large objects or heavy loads, injuries to tendons, ligaments or muscles in the lower back or legs may be easy to show.

Other types of repetitive motion or stress injuries are not, however. Working at a keyboard without an ergonomic design can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome, as can any number of repeated actions with hands, wrist or fingers. Lifting a fairly small amount of weight over and over and over can inflame nerves, particularly when you are not allowed sufficient recovery time. Requiring a worker to engage in stressful or physically demanding tasks without the opportunity for recovery can put unnecessary stress on body organs, leading to heart attack, stroke or other conditions. In addition, regular exposure to toxic or harmful substances can result in cancer, respiratory or other occupational diseases.
