Authorities are investigating the drowning death of a 15 month old child at Sunshine Daycare center Tuesday. Millville Police were dispatched shortly before 11 a.m. after the child fell into a goldfish pond – with water measuring less than one foot in depth.

Roxane Lacy, 58, runs Sunshine Daycare out of her home. Lacy was allegedly watching a group of children in her charge on the home’s porch when she then went inside her home in order to tend to another child. When she returned outside, she then noticed a child was missing.

Millville PD did attempt resuscitation at the scene. The child was then taken to Inspira Medical Center in Vineland, where he was pronounced dead.

The Millville Police Department is currently investigating the incident, including determining whether the daycare was being operated in an illegal manner, along with the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, and the state Department of Children and Families Child Protection and Permanency Division. Charges are pending until a full investigation is completed.

Police have encouraged parents not to bring their children to the daycare in the interim.
